Antenna for YB400

Hello;
My problem is: it would be very difficult to run the antenna wire into my house.

I have a 75' fence running north-south across the back yard, but power lines and house service lines running right above it,chopping up the backyard in fine fashion.

My side yards have about 50 feet of fence each, running away from the power lines at 90 degrees, and the south fence also has power lines right above it.

My thoughts are these; A speaker wire antenna, with terminal end soldered, runing east-west maybe 35 feet under the house eaves on the north, then right angle for ~35 feet, running north-south under the carport, then into the house. Where should I ground it?

Orrrr....would a slinky antenna under the carport (about 50-75 feet from the back power line, work? Would an east-west orientation eliminate European stations, as well as Oriental ones? If I oriented it North-South, would it be less sensitive to Canadian and South American stations? Will either be enough to make a real difference in my YB 400's reception ?

Will it make a difference if the wire is run through an insulated window, which will crimp it into funny shapes before it gets into the house?

Thanx

NVIS - could be ran along the fence, or if the fence was cyclone wire - you could try to load up the fence which might make a good antenna.

Power lines 60 cycle - should not present a problem - you just use a 1:1 Balun and use coax from the radio to the antenna - bypassing the ladder line from the radio out to the antenna - past the power lines.

Slinky antenna's tends to be circular polarized - hence they do not look like a vertical or a horizontally polarized antenna.

There is your next solution, to put up a Vertical 80 meters antenna.

You didn't say which bands you wished to listen to.

There are times here where the signals are so strong, I can receive them without the antenna being hooked to my Kenwood TS 590S...
Especially on 40 meters.

You could attend the Breezeshooters hamfest next weekend and see one in action if you were unsure about it's performance.
