** SPECIAL NOTE FROM EDITOR (By KB8NW) -- Dayton HamVention Wrap-up
Report: Well, after many hours of lost sleep and walking many miles
throughout the flea market and Hara area (my brother-in-law said
we averaged over 5 miles a day), I am very burned out and still
recovering in Tennessee a week later watching the grandkids
(yea - like that is going to happen with a 1 and 3 year old).....
Anyway, the HamVention was still fun and interesting in spite of =
some rain. DXer's notable events:
* Southwest Ohio DX Association (SWODXA) DX Dinner award announces:
- K1N was awarded 'DXpedition of the Year'
- Vlad, UA4WHX, was awarded 'DXpeditioner of the Year'
- CQ Announced its 2015 Hall of Fame Inductees (see OPDX.1214.2
or <cqnewsroom.blogspot.com/2015/05/cq-announces-2015-hall-=
of-fame-inductees.html>)
* DX Forum Presentations:
- VK9MT - Mellish Reef
- Don Miller, W9WNV
- EP6T Kish Island (Iran)
- K1N Navassa Island
In all, I really enjoyed myself especially with the huge crowd that
attended the NODXA Hospitality Suite at the Dayton Crown Plaza all
three nights -- where many well-known DXers/DXpeditioner show up
every year. I had the great pleasure to meet and talk (for the first
time) with CQ Hall of Famer Zorro Miyazawa, JH1AJT <https://scontent-dfw=
1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xfp1/v/t1.0-9/s480x480/11009134_960839373950684_23=

>.
I hope to see you all again next year (May 20-22nd, 2016), and if you
have not heard -- Hara Arena will be doing some renovations to the Hara
complex whixh is expected to be completed by next year's show......
Till next year.. 73 de Tedd KB8NW
P.S. I know I said that there probably would not be a bulletin this
week, but since there was so much in my mailbox I figured I better send
one out anyway......

be 'holiday-style' using a single station with 100w and a Buddipole

the first week in June, and he will stay for 6 month. Eric states, 'I =
will be operational on CW on/around IOTA frequencies or at the lower =
band edges. This is a spare time operation - no DXpedition, and as I will
be working very odd hours, I'd rather not do any skeds. I'll be in the
shack when work and other tasks permit.' His recommended way to request
a JW2US QSL card (for Bear Isl. or Hopen Isl.) is via the OQRS on ClubLog,
both direct and by the Bureau. Mail to QSL Manager LA2US will be answered
after December 2015.

Adak Island (NA-039) between June 18-21st. This is not a dedicated DX-
pedition, but he hopes to operate in evenings after work which will
determine his on-air time. He plans to operate as KL2HD/p (from Adak)
or KL7NWR (from Amchitka). He thinks 20m or 17m SSB are most likely.
Jeff will use 100w and a homebrew adjustable quarterwave vertical on
the ocean. If he can fit a 500w amp into his luggage, he will take.
QSL via KL2HD.

REALTIME BAND CONDITIONS WEB SITE <www.bandconditions.com>:
The purpose of this experimental Web site is to provide 24-7-365 actual
(REALTIME) band condition information to CW QRPp, QRPe and CW/SSB for
Contesters interested in increasing their scores. It can also be of
benefit to other Radio Amateurs to determine band conditions for Nets
and casual QSO's. This information is NOT based on any software pre-
dictions or any kind of satellite based readings. It is based on a
new Ionospheric sounding method called 'HF Ionospheric Interferometry'
which operates very similarly to the PolSAR system used by NASA.

SV/A, MOUNT ATHOS (Update). If you have not heard, the SV2/YL7A operation
is not going to take place. Kostas, SV1DPI, who talked with SV2ASP/A
reported on May 19th: 'Monk Apollo is outside Mount Athos, working with the
olives, but he offered himself to ask Holy Council and inform us about the
operation. The official news is that Holy Council prohibited the entrance
of the YL guys in Mount Athos because they announced a Ham Radio operation
without a license from Holy Council. The YL guys have a visa to enter Mount
Athos this morning as pilgrims but NOT a license to operate. After this
they can not enter in Mount Athos either as pilgrims.' The latest news
is that the team was on their way home on May 21st. The complete details
are now online at: www.lral.lv/exped/sv2/yl7a

VP2M, MONTSERRAT (Update) Operators Barry/N0KV, Ken/W0ETT, Greg/W0ZA and

square FK86), between June 10-18th. Activity will be on 80-2 meters using
CW, SSB and RTTY. They will also participate in the ARRL VHF Contest and
some satellite operations (FO-29 only on selected passes). The two primary
radios will be Elecraft K3's with 500 watt amplifiers. Antennas include
a Mosley Classic 33 on 10/15/20, a folding hexbeam by Folding Antennas
(Germany) on 20-10 meters, verticals on 30 and 40 meters, a dipole on
75-80 meters, and an M2 5 element 6 meter beam. They will run 500 watts
on 6m SSB/CW and FSK441. A 6 meter beacon is planned and will be on 50.102
MHz when the station is not manned, and the receiver will be active between
beacon transmissions to listen for calls. The primary callsign for the
operation will be VP2MKV, and VP2MTT will probably be used on 6 meters.
Near 24 hour operation is planned.
Tentative satellite pass plan for VP2MKV operation: They will attempt
to be on the first two FO-29 ascending node passes June 11th through 20th.
If time allows they may be on the third ascending node those days. Those
passes happen in late morning to mid afternoon Montserrat time. On those
passes they will look first for South America when the satellite is south
of them, then North America, then Europe during the short mutual window.
If there are 2 meter or 6 meter terrestrial openings during the VHF contest
June 13th and 14th, they will not be on satellite at those times. =
Logs will be uploaded to LoTW soon after the group returns to the US.
Paper QSLs via N0KV, direct or via the bureau. US addressees send SASE;
addressees outside the US send SASE plus 2 USDs for return postage. Use
